Mindful Gratification Delay [37/365]

Tonight, I noticed that I really did not want to go out for my daily walk. That happens quite often, but this was a stronger pull than usual.

As soon as I noticed this, I stopped for a bit and said to myself: “You don’t want to go out, and that’s ok. But do it anyway, for your minimum. Keep the habit rolling. Then, you can do whatever you want.”

I got out, walked more than my minimum, then came back home to write this post which I did not have time to write this morning.

While it started with recognizing the blocker, it would have been much harder if I did not already had a start of a habit already created. A few years back, I would have just stayed inside and not made the effort.

Sometimes, that’s all it takes. All those little efforts over years compound over time and you will see yourself being able to push further and recover from getting derailed much faster.

Compound interest won’t make you rich, but compound effort will make you unstoppable.
